MUMBAI, INDIA, April 9, 2025: Wise (LON: WISE), the global technology company building the best way to move and manage money around the world, is doubling down on its ongoing investment in India by announcing a new full stack hub in Hyderabad with plans to hire hundreds of roles over the next few years. Wise is also rolling out its highly requested international account details feature which will allow freelancers and businesses to get paid from abroad in 8 currencies (including USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, SGD) at the mid-market exchange rate.
India is at the heart of global money movement and has been integral to Wise's growth since 2013 when Wise first started powering payments for India’s diaspora. Today, about 10% of all the money sent from abroad to India is done so on Wise. In 2021, Wise launched lightning fast transfers from India at the mid-market rate and today Wise’s customers in India can send up to $250,000 abroad - the maximum amount allowed under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) - under its own AD-II Licence.
Reflecting the company's commitment to its long-term aim of becoming the network for the world's money, Hyderabad will become Wise’s newest full stack hub. Due to open in the second half of this year, this hub will start with core regional teams across Product, Engineering, Servicing Operations with plans to expand to host global product development and operations as hiring ramps up. Candidates interested in joining Wise’s India talent community can apply here.
Wise’s APAC Head of Engineering, Smrithi Ravi, will relocate back to India to lead Wise’s hub in Hyderabad. Smrithi has spent more than 6 years at Wise’s regional hub in Singapore leading a team of 30+ engineers driving the expansion of Wise's products across APAC. Smrithi and her team play a pivotal role in building the underlying infrastructure like Wise’s direct connections to local payment schemes in Singapore, Australia and most recently in the Philippines in a region known for its diversity and complexity.
Smrithi’s team is also responsible for building new features exactly localised to customers’ needs across the region. One such example is the highly requested international account details feature rolling out today. Tailored specifically to the needs of Indian businesses 一 who can now use Wise to get international account details to receive payments from abroad in multiple currencies including USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, SGD.
According to independent research from Benori Knowledge, high transaction fees (40%), non-transparent pricing (37%), and complicated processes (31%) were top challenges for businesses in India who receive payments from abroad. The new feature from Wise simplifies this process for receiving international payments:
- Businesses get free international account details in 8 major currencies on Wise (USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, NZD, SGD, CAD, HUF)
- Wise automatically converts the foreign currency to INR at the mid-market rate and sends it to their linked business’ account in India
- Money is processed in under 90 minutes during business hours with automatic eFIRC delivery via email
Smrithi Ravi, APAC Head of Engineering, said: "India's tech talent ecosystem is world-class, and I'm excited to return home to lead Wise's newest full stack hub in Hyderabad. The teams in Hyderabad will play a crucial role in Wise's global infrastructure and product development. I’ll be looking for people who are passionate about building products that have a real impact on customers and who are self-starters looking to solve some of the most complex problems in international money movement. Our new international account details feature is the perfect example of how we build products from a deep understanding of the local customer experience."
SK Saraogi, APAC Head of Expansion, said: "Today we're deepening our roots even further in India.
