- Wise Account and Wise Card launch in Thailand, giving travellers, expats and digital nomads a simple way to manage multiple currencies
- From rate alerts to QR payments and bill splitting, Wise brings travel money into one app
- Launch follows early adoption of Wise’s international money transfers, available in Thailand since mid-April
Bangkok, Thailand, 22 September 2026: Wise, the global technology company building the best way to move and manage the world’s money, today officially launches the Wise Account and Wise card in Thailand, giving local travellers and digital nomads a simpler, more transparent way to send and spend money in over 40 currencies across 160 countries.
The launch comes ahead of the upcoming travel season at a time when Thai travellers spent 558 billion THB overseas in 2025, and when Thailand has become one of the world's top destinations for expats and remote workers - a trend accelerated by the runaway success of the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), which has drawn digital nomads from all around the world to live and work from the country long-term.
Whether someone is a Thai local jetting off abroad on holiday an expat or a digital nomad living in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Koh Lanta, Wise Account holders in Thailand can now hold and convert multiple currencies, set rate alerts ahead of a trip or a money transfer, and spend locally or internationally with a physical or digital Wise Card - with transparent fees and no hidden exchange rate mark-ups.
Wise is designed around the whole journey, whether that's a two-week holiday or a longer stint living and working in Thailand. Before taking off for a holiday or before settling into a life in Thailand, customers can hold multiple currencies and set rate alerts to keep an eye on exchange rates and choose when to convert. Travellers can use their Wise card to book accommodation and attraction tickets ahead of time at favorable exchange rates.
Day to day, customers can spend with their Wise card and pay in local currency - useful for travellers passing through and for nomads paying rent, bills, or everyday expenses in Thailand. The Wise Card can also be added to Google Pay for contactless payments.
Where cards aren't the norm, Wise customers in Thailand can scan and pay using supported local QR payment systems directly from the Wise app. This includes PromptPay merchant or personal QR codes in Thailand or other local QR payment systems when travelling regionally, such as DuitNow in Malaysia, QRPh in the Philippines, and PayNow in Singapore.
The Bill Split feature makes it simple to divide shared expenses with travel companions, flatmates, or co-working friends from within the Wise app. Travellers can also use the Travel Hub on the Wise app for destination spending guides and ATM finders, and collect unique destination stamps as a record of the places they've explored with Wise.
Underpinning all of this is Wise's approach to making international money convenient and transparent. Customers can see the mid-market exchange rate and applicable conversion fee upfront, without hidden exchange rate mark-ups - important whether converting holiday spending money or managing money across currencies.
Wise has invested in building its products locally for Thailand. Earlier this year, Wise became the first non-bank to secure the five licences required for its local operations, with regulatory approval from the Bank of Thailand and Ministry of Commerce.
Today's launch builds on Wise's international money transfer service, launched in Thailand in mid-April 2026. Among early adopters sending money abroad from Thailand, AUD, EUR, and SGD were the three largest destination currencies by volume, reflecting the international ties of both Thai travellers and the expat/nomad community.
As of today, Wise’s Thai customers have access to the Wise account experience used and loved by around 19 million people globally.
“Thai travellers are incredibly savvy, but managing money abroad can still mean juggling cash, cards, exchange rates and different ways to pay. At the same time, we're seeing more and more expats and digital nomads choose Thailand as their base, often managing money across several currencies at once.
"We built the product to take that complexity away so people feel confident and smart about their money wherever they go or wherever they've decided to set up in Thailand. Thailand is one of the world's great travel markets, and increasingly one of the world's great places to live and work remotely, so this is only the beginning for Wise here.
"We want the Wise Account to be the product people turn to when they want to feel smart about spending, sending, and managing money internationally, whether they're here for a holiday or have made Thailand home."
